About the Tanabes

A retired neurosurgeon and founder of Microneurosurgical Consultants, Dr. Calvin Tanabe graduated from OHSU School of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency at Washington University Barnes Hospital in St. Louis and went on to complete a residency in neurology at UC San Francisco and in neurosurgery at OHSU. Dr. Tanabe served as an associate professor at OHSU and received the OHSU department of neurological surgery's Distinguished Alumni Award.

A retired anesthesiologist, Dr. Hung Tanabe graduated from Keio University School of Medicine in Tokyo. She did an internship at the U.S. Air Force Hospital at Tachikawa Air Force Base, completed a residency at OHSU School of Medicine and a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. She practiced anesthesiology at Emmanuel and St. Vincent Hospitals in Portland.

“We wanted to create an annual address that would open minds through contemporary discourse,” explains Dr. Calvin Tanabe.
