SPRINT FOR OHSU STUDENTS

OHSU students need your support. Help us raise $25 million for scholarships.

Supporting scholarships
for a healthy future

In a bold step to help future health care leaders address today’s unprecedented challenges, OHSU has launched a student support initiative: the Sprint for OHSU Students. This novel matching-gift program seeks to inspire and amplify the power of philanthropic support for scholarships and direct student aid at OHSU.

SUCCESS AT THE
SPEED OF GIVING

The COVID-19 crisis has created a burden both for OHSU and its students. One of the university’s highest priorities is ensuring that students are supported and their studies are not interrupted by the pandemic. Across the board, tuition has been increased at OHSU and other U.S. academic health centers, compounding an existing crisis in student indebtedness. More than ever before, all but the most privileged students must mortgage their own futures simply to earn the privilege of serving others.

Solving the root causes of this problem will take time. Our students need help right now.

IMPACT OF
SCHOLARSHIPS

Every year, OHSU competes with other schools for the most promising students. The availability of financial aid is a key factor in an applicant’s school choice. Scholarships enable OHSU to support exceptional students who could otherwise not afford to enroll here.

Some OHSU graduates can expect to begin their careers with more than $250,000 in student loan debt. That’s a significant burden, even for a well-paid big city surgeon or dental specialist. But imagine the implications for those who dream of practicing in a small, rural community or an inner-city clinic where the earning potential is far less.

CHANGING THE FACE
OF HEALTH CARE

OHSU students have not chosen an easy path. Regardless of discipline, a health care education is extremely challenging intellectually, physically, emotionally, and financially.

Scholarships are the best available tools to help exceptional OHSU students achieve their career goals and help OHSU attract the best, brightest and most diverse students to meet Oregon’s changing health care needs.
