OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital has just announced that it is one of the first five hospitals in the country to be verified as both a Level 1 Children’s Trauma Center and a Level 1 site for Children’s Surgery. The Level 1 designation is awarded by the American College of Surgeons, which has verified that Doernbecher is staffed and equipped to provide total care for even the most complex cases. This level of excellence is made possible every day by your generous support.
Doernbecher donors understand how important it is for kids in our region to have the very best trauma and surgical care. Hundreds of you have been inspired by the story of Kya Blake, who was crushed by a log when she was seven years old. In the first 24 hours after her accident, every decision made, every procedure performed was life or death for Kya. It took a dedicated team of more than 20 pediatric specialists, working round the clock, to help her pull through — so she could grow up to be the thriving high school student she is today.
Thousands of kids like Kya depend on Doernbecher for highly specialized, lifesaving care. What makes Doernbecher stand out?
• An emergency department just for kids, staffed by trauma-verified physicians, nurses and staff.
• Oregon’s only pediatric operating rooms dedicated exclusively to kids. Here, physicians, nurses, anesthesiologists and their teams have specialized training in pediatric surgical care, and conduct nearly 9,000 procedures annually.
To achieve dual Level 1 verification in trauma and surgery, Doernbecher had to meet the rigorous guidelines set forth by the American College of Surgeons for care tailored to the needs of children of every age, size and diagnosis. We’re proud of this accomplishment, and we’re proud to have so many in our community who support the health and healing of children through their generosity. Thank you.
